Strontium Titanate

Strontium Titanate Characteristics

Strontium titanate is a manmade gem material which is sometimes confused with diamond. It has a high refractive index close to diamond although it is not nearly as hard. If you had a large gem, you might notice it seems heavy because the specific gravity is higher than most gemstones. It has high dispersion resulting in more spectra colours seen in the stone.

This stone has been traded under various trade names such as “Fabulite”, “Kenneth Lane Jewel”, “Bal de Feu”, “Diagem”, “Diamontina”,  “Lustigem”, “Marvelite”, “Sorella”, “Jewelite”, “Pauline Trigers”,  and “Wellington”. There is no known natural counterpart. It is generally flawless; and may have gas bubbles, polishing marks; abraded and rounded facet junctions; no see thru; high relief in methylene iodide; also confused with diamond, CZ, GGG and YAG.
